Giants & Toys

I was going though my DVD's, cataloging and culling. Any way there were about 15 DVDs I never even seen. So I decided to put those aside and watch them every so often. (Maybe instead of watching bad broadcast TV!) So after I finished I popped in the first one, Giants & Toys. This is a Japanese film from 1958. The director is Yasuzo Masumura. I guess he is one the all time great Japanese directors.

It is the story a two employees of a Japanese candy company. The work in the publicity department. World Carmel is battling Apollo & Giant in the market place. World Carmel's campaign revoles arround giving away Sci-fi and Space related toys. (No wonder, I bought the movie!). They make star out of young poor girl. It is biting comentary on Corporate and Media cultures that may have been prophetic in 1958, but are all too true today. Great Movie!
